Newly renovated with modern touches and a rustic aesthetic, Misty Mountain is a cozy mountain home in the southern Smoky Mountains of Murphy, North Carolina. The jaw-dropping views from each room of the open-concept floor plan will take your breath away. Our cabin offers four bedrooms, two-and-a-half baths, two large living rooms, a well-equipped kitchen, two southern-facing decks with mountain views, and a spa. Misty Mountain sleeps up to 12 guests. We do not host pets at this cabin.

The space

Misty Mountain is located in the Five Forks mountain community of Murphy, North Carolina, a small town nestled in the heart of the southern Smoky Mountains. This quaint mountain town was established in the 1830s and is the westernmost county seat in the state of North Carolina. Murphy is perfectly situated at the confluence of the Hiwassee and Valley rivers, and is an excellent home base for exploring all that the area has to offer. Murphy is roughly a 30-minute drive from the numerous dining, shopping, and outdoor recreation opportunities in Blue Ridge, Georgia. It’s easy to spend a day exploring Blue Ridge’s boutiques, wineries, and shops before heading back to the peace and quiet of our private mountain. Murphy and the Five Forks community showcase small town mountain life at its very best.

The owners of Misty Mountain live in Atlanta, Georgia, where they work full-time and raise their three daughters. Prior to purchasing the home, they had always dreamed of buying a property with panoramic mountain views, both to occasionally escape from their hectic daily lives and to also host like-minded travelers looking for a mountain getaway.

In the summer of 2021, a friend told the owners about Murphy, North Carolina, an authentic mountain town with access to outdoor adventure, live music and festivals, good local food, and the beauty of the Smoky Mountains — without the touristy feel of some larger north Georgia and North Carolina locales. They started exploring and discovered the private Five Forks mountain community, where the mountain views, friendly neighbors, and abundant wildlife made for a perfect spot. They fell in love with an architect-designed cabin with a modern, open feel and awe-inspiring views.

Murphy NC Cabin Rental

In September of 2022, we (Barrett and Roger) had the pleasure of personally renting Misty Mountain for vacation. We came to the area to celebrate a good friend’s wedding in Brasstown, North Carolina, located just down the road from Murphy, which is one town over. For Roger, this trip was a special homecoming, as he spent his summers as a young man working in this area. We absolutely fell in love with the town of Murphy, the locals, and this stunning mountain cabin! We made a leap of faith and reached out to the owners to inquire about caring for their lovely home. Luckily for everyone, they said, “Yes!”.

This four-bedroom, two-and-a-half bath home offers an open-concept living and dining space, a fully-equipped kitchen, an additional downstairs living room for the kiddos, a private spa, a custom-built fire pit, and tons of privacy. The mountain views, attention to detail, and incredible woodwork really make this mountain cabin stand out from the rest

Misty Mountain can accommodate up to 12 guests comfortably, utilizing three king beds, a set of twin bunk beds, a twin daybed with trundle. We do not offer sleeper sofas. That said, there is a bonus room off the downstairs deck which has a futon that converts to a full bed and a flat-screen smart television. Bonus room not included for parties under 10. However, should your reservation require additional sleeping space for up to 12 guests total. All reservations over 10 required prior host approval. The interior living space is 2,080 square feet.

Cabin Rentals in North Carolina

Guests do need to climb four stairs to access the main floor of the home. No interior stairs are required to access the main floor’s living room, dining table, kitchen, master bedroom with ensuite, half bath, or the upper deck. There are interior stairs that lead to the downstairs living room, two guest bedrooms, a laundry room, and the spa deck.

There is a keyless entry on the northern-facing front door. Guests will be given the access code to the keypad prior to their arrival. Guests will also receive the code to the neighborhood’s gated entrance, which is located at the bottom of the mountain.

Upon entering Misty Mountain, guests are greeted by a bright living, dining, and kitchen area. This layout is perfect for enjoying time with friends and family. The living area features cozy oversized leather chairs and matching leather sofa, amazing mountain views, a gas log fireplace, and a flat-screen smart television.

The television is in a recessed cabinet that pops up with a push of a button, so as to not block the stunning mountain views. The controller for the television lift is mounted on the right hand side of the entertainment center. Press “2” for up and press “1” for down. Guests can adjust the television height as needed with the up and down arrow buttons. Guests are to sign in to their own app accounts and are responsible for signing out upon departure. The home has excellent WiFi service, with additional Nest internet boosters on both floors of the home. Please do not interfere with the location or set-up of the router or Nest devices.

Murphy North Carolina Cabin Rental

The kitchen is fully stocked with more than the basics; pots and pans, a drip coffee pot, a K-cup coffee maker, an electric tea kettle, milk frother, crockpot, blender, and ample utensils. If we have not stocked an item that is needed, please let us know. Please note that the home will occasionally have coffee, sugar, creamers, salt, pepper, other spices, and olive oil. However, we do not stock these items. If desired, we can arrange for grocery shopping and delivery prior to arrival. The kitchen dining table has seating for 10, while the bar seats four. There is an additional dining table on the deck offering outdoor seating for six.

The master bedroom is located on the east side of the main floor. It features a comfortable king bed, a larger dresser, two night stands with reading lamps, a mounted flat-screen smart television, a large closet for storing luggage, and a private exit to our southern-facing deck. Its four-piece bath has a shower/tub combo, a vanity with two sinks and ample counter space, a loo, fresh linens, and travel toiletries.

There is a half bath located off the hallway of the main floor as well.

Down the custom-built staircase with rustic log handrails, guests will find another fully-functional living room boasting incredible Smoky Mountain views. This living room has a mounted flat-screen smart television with Xbox 360, comfortable leather sofa, an oversized chair, and a twin daybed with trundle. This is a great place to send the teens for a movie night.

Cabin Rentals near Blue Ridge

There are two guest bedrooms on this downstairs floor. One guest bedroom has a king bed, two nightstands with reading lamps, a mounted flat-screen smart television, and a large walk-in closet. The second guest bedroom has a king bed, two nightstands with reading lamps, a mounted flat-screen smart television, a large walk-in closet, and a custom, built-in set of twin bunk beds that each have mounted night tables, lamps, reading spotlights, and plenty of USB ports for charging electronics. If utilizing the bunks for small children, guests may attach a safety guard rail for added protection. The rail is very easy to install. Please be sure to store it as found upon departure.

There is a full-size washer and dryer for guests to use in the laundry room, which is located off the downstairs living room. While we do offer a starter kit of laundry detergent, guests should always supply their own detergent for extended stays.

The downstairs living room has access to our spa deck, which also has incredible mountain views. Please always shower prior to entering the spa. The spa is serviced between guests. However, for extended stays we do leave a packet of shock for you to toss in the water mid-stay. Please pour in the packet and turn on the jets. Wait thirty minutes before entering.

North Carolina Cabin Rental

Misty Mountain has a CharBroil propane grill. Guests are responsible for bringing all of their BBQ supplies, excluding propane. The grill’s tank is connected to our buried propane unit and serviced as needed. There is also a back-up tank of propane on the deck, should there be issues with the primary tank during your stay.

Down the eastern-facing exterior stairs, you can access our newly-built fire pit. The firewood will be cut and ready for your enjoyment on arrival. If you feel you are running low on wood, please text us.

A 4WD or AWD vehicle is recommended for all seasons, and required to access the home in the wintertime. Please review our House Manual for more details on access. Remember to use common sense when traveling on our curvy mountain roads.

Though you may find it hard to pull yourself away from the comfort of our gorgeous mountain cabin, downtown Murphy is definitely a great place to explore. Guests will enjoy walking down the flower-lined streets, viewing our restored historic buildings, dining at one of many delicious local restaurants, sipping on a cold one at Buck Bald Brewing, and shopping at our unique boutiques. Guest access

Guests have access to the entire home except for two locked supply closets on the main floor.

Exterior Security Cameras:
Misty Mountain is a well-secured home. The exterior security cameras are on the property to support guest safety and peace of mind. The cameras record video and sound and are motion-activated. They do not look into any interior spaces. Please read below for a thorough outline of our security features.

Please note that we do not have any interior noise sensors, nor do we have interior cameras.

Misty Mountain has two exterior cameras:
– Camera 1 is mounted on the north side of the home and faces the driveway.
– Camera 2 is mounted on the west side (of the downstairs) southern-facing deck, looking towards the south over the mountains. This camera does not look towards the spa.

Guests will find internet boosters on both floors of the home. They are circular in shape and are labeled “Internet Boosters. Do not touch.”

Quiet Hours & Exterior Lighting:
– Our neighborhood is a full-time residential mountain community. Quiet hours are from 10 PM until 8 AM. Sounds travel on the mountain top. We ask that all music is taken inside (or turned way down) after 10 PM.
– Please use the dimmers for the exterior lights and do not leave the lights on overnight. Turning the exterior lights to the “off” mode by 10 PM is preferred.
– If you violate quiet hours and we receive complaints from our neighbors, we will terminate your stay early without a refund.
– Please do NOT leave the northern facing floodlight on overnight as it shines in our neighbor’s bedroom window. If you want to leave on an exterior light, leave on the front porch light instead.

Accepting Packages:
– Misty Mountain does not have a mailbox, so we cannot accept packages from USPS. If you need to have an item shipped, please ensure that it is shipped via UPS or FedEx.
– Please contact us to arrange special delivery for items that can only be delivered via USPS.

Other things to note

Rental & Damages Agreement Required:
– All reservations require an electronically signed and completely filled out Rental & Damages Agreement.

– The terms of the Rental & Damages Agreement can be reviewed prior to booking in the “Things to Know” section of the public listing, under “House Rules.”
